Health care to attract more PE investment: Experts

Private equity (PE) investors are bullish on the largely under-penetrated health care industry, which offers high growth opportunities for companies as well as investors.

PE and venture capital firms are largely looking at opportunities in start-ups and smaller, niche companies. Carlyle in talks to buy 28% stake in Trehan’s hospital

Global private equity (PE) major Carlyle is in talks with renowned cardiac surgeon Dr Naresh Trehan to acquire a minority stake in his Gurgaon-based multi-super speciality hospital, Medanta -The Medicity. According to people in the know, Carlyle is keen to acquire 28 per cent stake of Avenue Capital, along with another 10-15 per cent stake owned by Trehan.

Idea Cellular in talks with PE firms to raise money

Telecom operator Idea Cellular is in talks with private equity firms to raise fund, a top official of the company said on Wednesday.

“I have had chance in last 15 days to meet serious investors, including Fidelity, Blackrock. Almost everybody is taking it (penalty) as part of debt equity for companies, affecting our ability to raise more cash flow,” Idea Cellular Managing Director Himanshu Kapania said at an open house discussion chaired by Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal here.

ICICI Venture to exit Medica Hospitals

India Ventures to float Rs 1,000-cr healthcare fund

Ajay Piramal Group promoted India Venture Advisors, a healthcare focused venture capital, is planning to launch a Rs 1,000 crore fund.

“We are looking at Rs 1,000 crore fund, of which Rs 500 crore will be from overseas investors to invest in the Indian health-care market,” India Ventures Advisors President Sanjay K Randhar said.

Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) plans to invest about $200 million in Indian real estate, two sources said, underscoring a trend for large Gulf sovereign wealth funds to diversify away from traditional developed markets such as Europe. Private Equity exits up 38% in April-June 2013: Venture Intelligence

The exit of private equity (PE) firms from their investee companies has shown an upward trend in the quarter ended June 2013, with exits were reported from 29 Indian companies as against 21 exits during the same quarter of last year marking an increase of 38%, says research service firm Venture Intelligence.
